since i’ve moved away from myspace and towards facebook, im constantly doing those goofy status updates so people know what is going on with me. i haven’t honestly felt the need to put anything on here, because people are super aware of what is going on with me through that, or just being with me. i think that i got bogged down by having three or four different social sites that i was running back and forth between, and it just got dumb. so maybe since im not really doing any photography stuff now, and haven’t been since the beginning of summer, and am not checking on that site. and the fact that i’ve given up on myspace, and i think most of us have at this point, that i may take some time back to write some things out.

im still in college and im still working at the same place, so not much has changed there. this spring i took a different position at work that i had really wanted, and ended up hating its guts. but i toughed through it as long as i could. in the end, my college schedule, that the company was well aware of, became and issue, and i stepped down from it. however, i’m still doing some of the same things i was there, as when i had it. college…where do i start with you? sighhh. im a sophomore, and will be a junior at the end of this semester. thanks to dropping classes i hated or couldn’t take on while doing others at the same time, i got a few credits behind. in case you haven’t heard, or forgotten, or i’ve changed it since i last told you, my major is Communications. my focus in this is advertising, and my minor will be in public relations. however, even though im as far along as i am in college, i still haven’t taken the classes on this, so don’t ask me much about them. i’ve taken every other ridiculous course that i have to for my major that i will likely never use, such as TV production and film making. have i mentioned to you that i HATE that film making class. such a waste of my life. i have loved college since day one, honestly…but im getting to that point now where i want to finish up, and have a more solid lifestyle. being at school all day long two days a week, and being at work four other days a week, making for only ONE day off a week is running me ragged.

as for personal life, still single. apparently im a nun or some shit like that. as for friends, well they come and go, but my haley harless will always be there for me and i love her for that. she’s likely the most solid person i know in my age group. don’t get me wrong, i have a lot of interesting people in my life that i love very much, but for the very close friends, she’s the one. family, i don’t even know. i pretty much only see mother at this point. i haven’t seen one part of my family since last christmas, even though they only live about 40 minutes away from me. i have family two miles down the road that i think i MAY have seen early in the year, but im not really sure. my aunt and uncle i see more frequently then the rest, but at that im only seeing them once every other month or something. it’s ridiculous.

and now i’ve realized that this is just a big rambling mess, and i assure you that i will have something more pertinent to say when i write the next time. think of this as your return to school after summer break, when they brush you up on all of the basics. this is just long division and predicate nominatives.

i LOVE elbow. all of their songs are great, but this is the first that i ever heard, and i’ve been stuck on it since.

so yeah, those are 15 of the many songs i like to sing in my car. i know that list looks like a crackhead put it together, but i’m really not kidding when i say i like all kinds of music. i hope it was helpful, or at least slightly entertaining.

a good way to get this kind of information out there is in fact the internet. there are millions of blogs out there by millions of people who believe that they have the right opinion, and you should hang onto every word that they say. those people in most cases, don’t or won’t have what is really an intelligent way of looking at a scenario, but for every hundred  people that don’t, there are probably 10 that do. if you’re lucky enough to sift through all of these writers and find the truly smart, real thinkers, then you’ve caught onto something. the whole idea of blogging is brilliant, because every man has a voice in this.

in past times, the ways of spreading information to the masses was by television, radio news articles, and books. in this, you always have editors, directors, producers and various other higher ups that are censoring what the anchors or journalists are wanting to say. but in the world of blogging, pretty much anything goes. there is no one saying, “oh no, you can’t write that. that group of people who believe this will never read our newspaper again.” thus it’s a successful way to put the truth out there, whatever it may be.

this to me proves to be so much more effective than  most other forms of the media because of these reasons. i do believe that John Milton was right in the free marketplace of ideas theory. if people know more about any given situation, their minds start to wander and consider many more possibilities, thus becoming much more of a free thinker in the end.

(this is for school. i just needed it to be published for the class. i don’t sit around thinking about the media like so.)

now if you lived here on campus or in the area, you would think nothing of these breaks. you could simply go back to the dorm or to your home and hang out for a while. but for those of us who commute, there is nothing. now granted, you could drive over wonderful goff mountain road and head up to walmart, or one of the restaurants that are in that area, but this takes money. money for gas, money to shop, money to eat. it’s all dollars, and that’s not cool. or maybe you could even go to the union, but all that is really there is taco bell, the bookstore, and downstairs you have the gym. once again, unless you want to eat tacos and be sick all day, or you want to work out and be sweaty for your next couple classes, this is not a good option.

so what do i do in these breaks? for my first break i sit in the courtyard between Ferrell and Wallace. this courtyard has about 7 benches that are shaded by the trees at this time of the day. the rest are out in the blaring sun, where you have to squint to see anything, and your body gets so hot from having no sun protection. thus, you have to run out here to sit and wait. it sucks. here is my next issue, im only going to be able to do this for a few more weeks. why? if you haven’t noticed, west virginia tends to have pretty cold autumns and winters. im going to have to find somewhere else to go, and unless im in a building, sitting at a desk, where the heck am i going to go?

my second break is generally spent in my car, going on a search for food. i don’t even want to talk about the food situation in this area. every bit of it is fast food or completely unhealthy. so i do what i can to find something decent, then sit in my car to eat it. why? it will be the most comfortable place i will be all day. the desks here are so damned uncomfortable that i leave with a backache nearly everyday. but that is another story. lets focus.

so the issue is what to do, what to do? i honestly don’t know. im really scared im going to go on shopping trips on these breaks when it gets colder, and that is not going to make my bank account smile. for as long as i can, im going to sit with my laptop, and be an internet nerd. but how long can that last? tell me what you think about what one should or could do with an hour and fifteen minutes.

i reflect back to the good times we had, and what was going on in my life a few months to a year ago. it’s weird how much everything has changed. the people that you think will always be there, that are what you would consider “true friends”, can seperate from you, for good or for bad. although i think  that i am okay without them, do not get me wrong, i do miss the times that were had with them. but overall, i am happy with where i am right now. and do not get me wrong, i realize that everyone and everything that has happened all through my life has impacted me in some way or another, so know that i don’t regret the time that was spent with anyone. i just wish that different decisions had been made by a lot of people, and im not targeting any one person with this.

anyway, as i said, nights like tonight make me think; for good or for bad.
